Illinois Sustainable Technology Award Evaluation Criteria

Application narratives should address the following:

1. Describe the technology addressing the following points as applicable to the technology.
   • Scientific/Engineering Principles
     Describe how the technology works and the applicable scientific and engineering principles. Include a diagram or picture if it is helpful in explaining the concepts.
   • Innovativeness
     Discuss why the technology is novel. Detail how the technology differs from existing products, processes, or technologies and its competitive advantage.
   • Environmental Benefits
     Estimate the energy, water, or emissions reductions. Estimate the amount of toxic or hazardous substances that have/will be eliminated. Discuss any other impacts to the environment or community.
   • Additional Benefits
     Explain raw material, energy, water, or labor savings that may result from the technology. Explain any improvements in product quality and safety. Discuss any other benefits that may occur as a result of the technology.
2. Discuss how the technology was developed and by whom.
3. Explain to what extent the technology has been implemented and how long it has been used. Describe any retrofits or modifications of existing systems that were or will be required.
4. Address the long-term impact (five years or longer) of the technology in terms of pollution prevention and economic gain in Illinois.
5. Identify whether or not your facility or organization is subject to an environmental enforcement action or notice of violation from the Illinois EPA or U.S. EPA. (This information may affect award eligibility).
