All members of a family or a group of friends who live under the same roof share the goal of keeping their home safe, clean, and livable. Pursuing this common goal means that each individual in the group needs to be aware of their home’s current condition, and willing to do what is needed to maintain it safely.

We all share a common home - the planet Earth (and on a smaller scale, the state of Illinois). Just as all members of a household care about and help to protect and maintain their home environment, so must all people care about and take responsibility for our environment. We can do this by preventing pollution before it happens and by conserving resources through waste reduction in all aspects of our lives.

The Waste Management and Research Center works with members of industry, small business owners, pollution prevention professionals, school administrators, teachers, and academic researchers. Because we share one planet, pollution prevention and waste reduction are everyone’s business.

The information in this portion of the website is part of our effort to help people become better stewards and make our common home a safer, cleaner, and better place to live.
