Information for Schools
Greening Schools
![]() |
WMRC is working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) on a project called Greening Schools. The goal of this project is to provide free pollution prevention technical assistance and workshops for teachers, school facility managers, and administrators in Illinois, as well as access to online pollution prevention information for schools. Greening Schools focuses both on improving the environmental health and safety of school facilities while decreasing the environmental impact of school operations as well as providing curricula related to pollution prevention concepts for use in the classroom.
The Greening Schools web site provides information for teachers on biofuels, as well as information for facility managers and administrators. The Greening Schools web site also provides information on events, funding opportunities and news that relates to schools. A listserv for the weekly distribution of resources is also available. To join the Greening Schools listserv, or to learn more about how Greening Schools can help your school with its biodiesel projects or other pollution prevention projects, contact WMRC Education Specialist Carol Knepp.
Mahomet-Seymour High School
WMRC scientists are working with students and staff at Mahomet-Seymour High School to convert used cooking oil from the school's cafeteria to biodiesel, which in turn is being used to power of the district's school buses. Read more about this on our Current WMRC Projects page.
